Inside Step Single
World Champion Melvin Douglas begins his shot by "popping" the opponent's out-stretched left arm.
Many people call this posting an arm, but the preferred name is the pop.
With the arm cleared, Douglas attacks by taking a strong inside-step to the center of his opponent's stance.
Here as Douglas drives his knee to the mat, he catches the near single leg; instead of going to the expected high-crotch on the left.
The single can then be finished in a variety of ways.
Focus on strong position on a single leg. Never stay on the mat. Come up with your shot!
In this case, Douglas cuts the corner on his shot.
Cover the opponent for the score.
An inside step single is a sort of misdirection shot
Many times the opponent is "tricked" into thinking that the attacker is shooting to the other side.
