Banana Splits
The 'Splits' is an effective turn in scholastic wrestling. In this example the top man is slipping in a near-leg while grounding himself with a near ankle ride. The top man catches the bottom wrestler reaching back. He locks tightley behind the knee, capturing both the leg and the far arm in the splits.
The splits can be taken forward or backward depending on the preference of the top wrestler. Here the top man crunches it back---notice the bottom wrestler's arm is still trapped. The top man has the near leg securely grapevined with a leg-ride at this time.
The roll back is forced with the tight lock on the far leg. Here you can also see the near leg grapevine. The splits are used for tilt or pin points. Remember the rules specifically prohibit using a move to inflict pain. Keep it legal! To tighten control you may want to figure four your near leg.
