Van Dusen named Wrestler of the Week

Marcie Van Dusen (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) has been named Wrestler of the Week for the week of June 1-7. Each week, will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday. Van Dusen won a gold medal at 59 kg/130 lbs. at the 2004 University World Championships over the weekend. In the gold-medal match, Van Dusen downed 2003 Cadet European champion Volha Serbina of Belarus 6-0. Serbina also competed in the 2003 World Championships held in New York City. In pool competition, Van Dusen defeated 2003 Asian Championships silver medalist Sayuri Tatemoto of Japan 3-1, 2003 World Cup bronze medalist and two-time Junior World bronze medalist Breanne Graham of Canada 5-1 and Arleta Wakuska of Poland. Van Dusen recently placed fifth at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials-Wrestling. She placed third in the 2002-03 U.S. World Team Trials. Click here to view previous Athletes of the Week
