Torres named Wrestler of the Week

Rene Torres (Tucson, Ariz.) has been named Wrestler of the Week for the week of July 20-July 26. Each week, will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday. Torres was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the Cadet Greco-Roman National Championships in Fargo, N.D. on Monday evening after he won the 125-pound title. In the finals, Torres defeated Jacob Salazar of Utah 10-0 in just 29 seconds. Torres won nine matches in the tournament overall, including four by fall. Torres was a Cadet regional champion in both Greco-Roman and freestyle this year. He will also compete in the Cadet Freestyle National Championships taking place July 28-30.
