Dennis named Wrestler of the Week

Joe Dennis (Urbana, Ohio/Cleveland State) has been named Wrestler of the Week for the week of February 8-14. Each week, will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. Dennis, a true freshman heavyweight at Cleveland State, pinned Joe Hennis with 10 seconds remaining in the match to give his team a 22-20 dual win over No. 25 Edinboro on Friday evening. The win was big for Cleveland State, which has suffered from injuries all season long. The Vikings had trailed Edinboro by 13 team points with only three bouts remaining. On Sunday, Dennis then sealed a victory for Cleveland State with a 10-7 win over Clarion's John Fager. The win gave Cleveland State a 25-18 dual win and it's first winning streak of the dual season. For the season, Dennis has posted a team-high 24 wins against 10 losses while facing some of the top competition in the country. His record in the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) is 5-0. Dennis, a 2004 high school national champion, plans to major in Psychology. Click here to view previous Athletes of the Week
