Lundell won four matches on the way to the gold medal at 70 kg/154 lbs. at the historic first FILA World Grappling Championships, held in Antalya, Turkey, Sept. 9.

He was one of nine individual champions from the United States, which swept all of the gold medals and a majority of the medals awarded with a dominant team performance.

He won winning handily when his second opponent, Jean-Baptist Lemerle of France was disqualified at 1:10. In the semifinals, Lundell scored a quick submission over Lautaro Arborel of Spain in 38 seconds.

In the championship finals, Lundell secured another victory by submission, defeating John Irlkaranagh of Ireland in 2:35.
