Jessica Aguilar named Wrestler of the Week for March 23-29

Jessica Aguilar (Coconut Creek, Fla./American Top Team) has been named Wrestler of the Week for March 23-29.

Each week, will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Aguilar won gold medals in both the No-Gi and Gi divisions at 55 kg/121 lbs. at the FILA Grappling World Championships in Krakow, Poland, March 27-28.

Aguilar won all four matches in a round-robin competition to win the No-Gi tournament on Saturday. Included was a victory over silver medalist Ocean Talvard of France.

The next day, Aguilar won all three bouts in her round-robin to add the Gi division title in her weight class. Included was another win over Talvard, who again won a silver medal.

Coaches praised Aguilar for her dominance and skill in both disciplines.

Her performance helped lead the USA to the team title in No-Gi Grappling and a second place finish in the Gi Grappling competition.

Aguilar was previously a FILA World champion in No-Gi Grappling at the 2009 World Championships in Florida.
