Les Sigman named Wrestler of the Week for April 20-26

Les Sigman (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC) has been named Wrestler of the Week for April 20-26.

Each week, will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Sigman defeated past World fifth-place finisher Tommy Rowlands in the semifinals and World bronze medalist Tervel Dlagnev in the finals to win the U.S. Open freestyle title at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. on April 24 in Cleveland, Ohio.

The second-seeded Sigman dropped the first period in both matches, but rallied to beat Rowlands and the top-seeded Dlagnev in succession to win the title.

Sigman now advances to the best-of-3 finals for June’s U.S. World Team Trials in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He will meet the winner of the challenge tournament in the final-round series.

Sigman has won three tournaments this season. He earlier won titles at the Hargobind and Dave Schultz events.
