Washington D.C. area wrestlers to #TakeAStance on Saturday at the U.S. Capitol

Wrestling supporters in the Washington, D.C. area have decided to get together over Labor Day weekend to help the Keep Olympic Wrestling movement.

On Saturday, August 31, all wrestlers are invited to #TakeAStance and have their photo taken in front of the U.S. Capitol Building in their wrestling stance.

People are asked to show up and #TakeAStance at 1:30 p.m. ET Saturday on the east steps of the U.S. Capitol Building. Those who support Olympic wrestling are encouraged to bring friends, family, and teammates.

Professional photographers will be there to take individual photos and group photos of those in attendance. Large “Save Olympic Wrestling” banners will be there for the event. The photos will be shared with FILA and USA Wrestling and posted in many other locations on the internet.

The event is being organized by the Washington Wrestling Club (WWC), the District of Columbia Wrestling Association (DCWA) and USA Wrestling.

“Washington D.C. is a world city. It is a major seat of power in our modern society. Wrestling is an important and respected sport in this city. It truly exemplifies the American way. We are inviting any wrestler or supporter to join us in a unified effort to help convince the IOC to keep wrestling. A large visible show of support in front of an iconic D.C. landmark before the IOC vote would be great,” said wrestling leader Josh Henson.

FILA, USA Wrestling and the Committee for the Preservation of Olympic Wrestling (CPOW) have encouraged wrestling people worldwide to have their picture taken in a wrestling stance and to post that image on social media, using the hashtag #TakeAStance. Hundreds of these images from all over the world have been posted in support of Olympic Wrestling.
